• Under normal conditions they perform exactly like our standard cards but when introduced into a fertile environment (eg compost, land fill, rubbish dump, the ground, lakes, rivers and the ocean) the degrading process starts, completing in 1-5 years.

• This involves microbes colonising on the surface, which utilise the carbon backbone of the polymer chain as an energy source.
